  • Magic is electric

For several years, whenever I would visit my local Petsmart to buy cat food, I would stop off at the cages of the cats available for adoption. Many of them would reach their paws through the bars to get your attention and receive affection. Which I was always happy to give. While petting them I would always say a little blessing for them to find a good home where they would be safe forever. And every time I would do this, I would get a small static shock from the cage.

This got me thinking. Thoughts are essentially electrical pulses. And electrical conduction happens on the atomic level. To be sentient is to feel or perceive, meaning that there must be consciousness. And consciousness means at least some level of active thought. So if all naturally occurring things have electrical activity, then it’s possible anything with a basic conscious awareness could make use of magic, influence the timelines we all exist in. Even after the tree is cut down, the meat is harvested, the silk is turned into fabric, some of that sentient awareness is retained. So it’s important for us all to acknowledge everything we use. Destruction is part of creation, but it’s important that we also assist in that creation process.

I have one exception to this and that is plastics. I think we have altered them too much from the natural. I am not the only one who has noticed that they don’t like to hold a charge, and that they don’t seem to develop a spirit overtime as Things like crystals, trees, rocks, buildings and even neighborhoods can.

  • Five essentials to my practice

For this list, none of the suppliers know I am writing this, and I also don’t intend to do pieces like this often. But I’ve been trying to come up with an icebreaker and any start is better than none. I am slowly minimizing the amount of physical materials and ingredients in my practice, as I shift more toward energy work on other planes. These however our things I feel I never want to be without.

Florida water. I have a very hard time sticking to patterns in my practice, and in life in general. So I always like to add Florida water to my bath or shower to help cleanse my physical and energetic body. The one I really like is from Belladonna’s Botanicals.

Dragons blood and sandalwood oils. Energetically these are two sides of the same coin, dark and light. Dragons blood is a little bit more commanding where sandalwood is sweeter. Make sure you get ones that are safe to put on your skin. You can use these for glamour magic, protection, And attraction or manifesting. I do not have a current favorite purveyor of sandalwood oil, and I don’t want to recommend a cheap fake stuff, but there is a good dragon’s blood oil from Angelleesa Designs.

Bone powder. I get mine through Belladonna’s. This is excellent for spirit keeping or offering to the land spirits and other elementals, as it can be used as offerings or food. You can use bones left over from meat you consume if you are willing to take the time to clean and sanitize the bones. Also I encourage you to acknowledge the spirit of the animal you have consumed before repurposing the bone.

Incense paper. This is a product from Gnostic Apothecary. Essentially you receive these little envelopes containing a booklet of Mulberry paper slips, each treated with incense powder. You write petitions and then burn them, or carry the petition with you. It is not too expensive to stock up. They burn beautifully. I love so many of the available fragrances.

Slut water. This one is also carried by Belladonna’s Botanicals. You can use it to attract someone for a physical interaction. You can also just wear it to feel more beautiful and confident. It comes in a really pretty little vile with a ribbon, and smells amazing.

Everything I recommend can very easily be incorporated into energy work, astral magic, glamour magic and so forth. You can also incorporate any of these into More well known styles of western ritual. But that is not really where I’m at anymore. I don’t really keep an altar. More and more I work with currents and spirits to achieve my goals.
